The appeal challenging the Commercial High Court's verdict in the case filed against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the non-payment of money due to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) for using its buses during the presidential polls has been fixed for June 13.
This was announced when the appeal petition which was filed by Gamini Senarath - an accused in the case filed by the SLTB, was taken up before the Supreme Court today (Mar 26).
Previously, Mr. Senarath and parliamentarian Susil Premajayantha - the other accused in the case had filed an amended charge sheet while the case was being heard.
However, the Commercial High Court had refused to accept the charge sheet following which the accused had filed an appeal against this decision at the Supreme Court.
The SLTB had previously filed a case against former President Rajapaksa and six others seeking compensation for the Rs 142 million worth losses caused by the non-payment of dues to the SLTB for using its buses.
The prosecution claimed that the accused had caused the losses by utlising SLTB buses for Mr. Rajapaksa's presidential election campaign in 2015.
Accordingly, the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and its election committee members Gamini Senarath and Amal Senadhilankara were named as respondents in the case filed by the SLTB.
