The Appeal Court today (Jul 4) reaffirmed the death sentence imposed on drug criminal Mohamed Shiyam and his wife over the possession of 23 kilograms of heroin.
Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) officers had arrested the suspects with the narcotic at a residence in Ward Place, Colombo in 2003.
The suspects had been sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court in 2007.
They had then filed an appeal petition against the High Court's verdict. However, the Appeal Court decided to uphold the High Court's decision to sentence these suspects to death.
