Minister Arjuna Ranatunga has been asked to appear before a Presidential Commission tomorrow (Oct 24), after he had appeared before the Presidential Commission without the relevant documents yesterday.
Ranatunga has been asked to give evidence over alleged financial irregularities that had taken place while purchasing oil during his term as petroleum minister between 2017 and 2018.
A complaint has been filed at the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) probing state sector corruption to this effect.
His brother Dhammika too has been asked to appear before the PCoI, as he had served as the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) at that time.
The complaint filed at the PCoI alleges that oil had been purchased using the spot tender method after cancelling long term contracts, costing the CPC losses amounting to Rs 700 million.
