Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva mande an unannounced visit to the Dambulla Economic Centre yesterday (27) to check on reports that vegetable prices at the centre had skyrocketed and middle-men were interfering with trade there.
The Army Commander told reporters that he decided to visit the economic centre after getting media reports of massive crowds at the centre and that the prices of vegetables at the centre had increased rapidly. He urged members of the public who had come to purchase vegetables from the centre to practice social distancing by remaining at least one metre from each other while at the market.
Lt. Gen. Silva also stated that the Government was implementing a programme to deliver vegetables directly to people's houses and that the amount of vegetables delivered would increase in future.
