Army Commander meets Chief Minister Vigneswaran

A meeting between Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vignewswaran and new Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake took place at the Chief Minister's residence in Nallur, Jaffna on Sunday (30).

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Chief Minister Vigneswaran stated that the main topics which were discussed at the meeting were the release of private lands in the north still held by the security forces as well as the land issue of people in the Keppapilaw village in Mullaitivu. 

Referring to the army commander as "an old friend," the CM said Lieutenant General Senanayake had come to see him after being appointed as the new army commander recently. The army commander had pointed out that he had followed through on his pledge as outgoing Jaffna security forces commander to release the Myladi fisheries harbor and surrounding lands back to the people, CM Vigneswaran observed. 

The Chief Minister also said he expected that the issue of Keppapilaw villagers would be resolved soon as the army commander had said he was ready to assist in doing so, while Resettlement Minister D.M. Swaminathan has also reserved allocations for this matter.
