An army officer was killed after a speeding mini lorry crashed onto an army sentry point in Wattappalai, Mullaitivu leaving one other army officer injured this evening.
Investigations have revealed that the vehicle had collided with the sentry point at around 5:30 pm today (Apr 16) after losing balance due to the excessive speed in which it was travelling at the time of the accident.
The deceased has been identified as H.P.S. Pathirana who was attached to the 6th unit of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP), Army said adding that he had died upon admission to the Mullaitivu hospital.
Meanwhile, 6 SLCMP Staff Sergeant S.D.R. Dissanayake who sustained injuries in the accident is currently receiving treatment at the Mullativu Hospital.
Mulliyawalai Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
