The cloud seeding project which underwent its first trial in Mawussakale last week in a bid to generate artificial rain has been suspended, a senior Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) official told Times Online.
A lack of cloud cover and moisture had affected the implementation of the project and had failed to produce the desired results during its initial test-run in Mawussakale on March 22.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Power and Energy had decided to suspend the project after taking into consideration the losses that would be incurred as a result of continuing the project, the CEB official noted.
The artificial rain generation project which was carried out through the technical expertise from Thailand was expected to resolve the issues faced during droughts in the country.
