Australian police have dropped charges of terrorism on Kamar Nizamdeen, a Sri Lankan student in Sydney who was accused of plotting the assassination of Australian leaders, ABC Australia reported.
Nizamdeen, 25, was arrested by police in August over allegedly plotting the assasination of Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull and his deputy Julie Bishop.
Speaking outside court, Nizamdeen’s lawyer Moustafa Kheir said the process had taken a toll on the student, who spent a month in a maximum-security prison after being charged.
Kheir said “He’s gone through super max jail — unforgivable circumstances.”
He also added that Nizamdeen would be suing the police for compensation.
