The government is set to decentralise the Colombo‑based Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) by establishing regional offices at the district level with greater powers as the next step in its campaign to eradicate corruption.
According to the Governance Action Plan-2026, released by the Presidential Secretariat this week, the government will formulate and finalise a ‘decentralisation plan’ outlining the authority and jurisdiction of the 24 regional offices in each district; duties, responsibilities, and hierarchy of the officials; and required resources.
