The body fragments believed to have been of the two businessmen killed in Rathgama will be sent for a DNA test after obtaining court approval, Judicial Medical Officer of the Matara General Hospital Dr. Sumith Ambepitiya said.
A few bone fragments and pieces of skin were found in the area in which the businessmen’s bodies were believed to have been burnt, he added.
He also pointed out that the remaining evidence was insufficient to carry out a post-mortem examination.
Dr. Ambepitiya claimed that the remaining body fragments might have been removed to divert investigations. On the same lines, he noted that the remaining evidence was therefore vital in helping to identify the root cause of the crime.
Two businessmen in Rathgama by the names of Rasith Chinthaka (31) and Manjula Asela Bandara (33) were abducted and allegedly murdered on January 23 by a group suspected to have comprised police officers attached to the Southern Special Investigations Unit.
