The remains of a woman who had gone missing on October 1 in Gampola has been recovered from the Mahaweli River in Haragama, Kandy yesterday (Oct 7).
Police said the body had been recovered at around 10 pm during a search operation which was launched after a complaint had been received by the Gampola Police.
A magisterial inquest carried out today ruled the death of the 27-year old female teacher as "suspicious", Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The body of the deceased identified as Nisansala Ratnayake, a resident of Gampola, had been identified by her father. An autopsy is to be carried out on her remains which lie at the Kandy General Hospital, tomorrow.
