The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) says there has been a rise in dengue patients due to the north-east monsoon.
Issuing a press release, the NDCU noted that it had carried out a special inspection programme on November 15 and 16 in abid to curb the rise and spread of the disease.
Following the programme, it was revealed that the Puttalam district was home to the highest number of breeding grounds while Puttalam and Jaffna came in second and third with percentages of 38.1 and 35.7 breeding grounds respectively.
The release noted that upto 22.6 percent of breeding grounds were found in Colombo while the Western Province accounted for 20.4 percent of breeding grounds.
The NDCU further said that the public could obtain details of dengue prevention methods by contacting the public health inspectors in their respective localities.
It also urged the general public to clean their surroundings for a period of 30 minutes per week if their area was prone to dengue mosquitoes.
