A Sri Lankan couple in a bid to break a record by having the longest saree fall in a wedding ceremony could face a child protection probe after enlisting the help of school children to carry the long garment.
The couple who were tying the knot in Kandy first had to unwind the two-mile long fall of the saree before walking inside for the ceremony. According to reports, 250 students were recruited to carry the fabric, while a further 100 children were flower girls.

The National Child Protection Authority said in a statement posted on their website asking the youngsters to participate during school hours is illegal and could land them in prison.
In a statement. it said children's rights had been "violated" by the "outrageous act" of the couple. NCPA chairman Marini de Livera said the authority doesn't want it to become a regular occurrence in the city.
He said: "Depriving children of education, risking their security and harming their dignity are criminal offences. What they did is a violation of child rights."
