Minister of Transport Arjuna Ranatunga has announced that the prices of bus fares will go down by four percent with effect from midnight on December 26.
He made this announcement at a press briefing that was held following a meeting with bus unions.
Addressing the media, Mr. Ranatunga said that the minimum bus fare which was Rs 12 however will remain unchanged.
"There are 12 price categories which are taken into consideration while formulating bus fares. Out of those 12 categories, only the price of fuel has gone down while the other categories have remained unchanged" explained the Transport Minister while attributing the unchanged minimum fare to this reason.
Minister Ranatunga also added that the bus fare was reduced in line with the decrease of fuel prices.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport issuing a press release said that it was decided at a meeting between the Minister and representatives of the All-Island Three-wheel Owners Association to cut-down minimum three-wheeler fares from Rs.60 to Rs 50.
