The Transport Ministry has granted approval to to increase bus fares by a 1.2 ratio with effect from midnight today, on condition passengers are transported as per the seating capacity, the Ministry said. Accordingly minimum bus fare of Rs.12 increased to Rs.14
The Ministry said that the increase in the bus fares came in the wake of the current COVID-19 situation. Proposals have been made to increase normal bus fares by 50 percent, semi-luxury and luxury fares by 20 percent and super luxury fares by ten percent by trade unions in keeping up the transport policies with regard to the pandemic.
