A Sri Lankan passenger was arrested by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today for attempting to smuggle ten gold rings from Singapore.
The individual has been identified as a businessman aged 44 and a resident of Kotikawatta.
Customs officers had seized the gold rings weighing up to 299.80 g and valued at over Rs 1.7 million when the man attempted to depart from the airport following his arrival this morning. The rings were hidden inside the pocket of the man, customs officials say.
Further investigations on the incident continue.
