CAA collects Rs 1.9 m as fines from law-breaking traders during Avurudu season

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has collected fines amounting to Rs 1.9 million from traders who were selling goods at a higher price than the Maximum Retail Price (MRP).

These fines were collected during 3364 raids carried out by CAA officers between April 06 until yesterday (April 15), CAA said.

Meanwhile, 4206 cases have been filed against traders who were caught while selling goods at a higher price.

The CAA is expected to carry out more raids across the country in order to detect instances in which goods are sold at a higher rate.
