Cabinet approval has been granted to advise SriLankan Airlines to reduce fees on airline services and ground operations to attract flights to the country.
A proposal by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had also sought to advise the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to reduce fuel prices in a similar way to that at the Chennai Airport.
Further, he had also suggested suspending the annual budget's proposal to increase the Embarkation Levy by USD 10. These recommendations will be in effect for the next six months.
Prime Minister Wickremesinghe had made these suggestions in a bid to boost tourist arrivals which had dwindled drastically since the terrorist attacks on April 21.
The proposal showed that tourism accounts for 4.5 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Production (GDP).
