Cabinet approves domestic airport for Bandarawela

Cabinet approval has been given to a proposal to establish a domestic airport at Bandarawela in the Badulla district. The Government noted that except for Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces, all other provinces in the country already have domestic airports. 

A minimum of 6 hours is required to travel on land from Colombo to Badulla and the duration for air transportation is about 25 minutes, it has been pointed out. 

Accordingly, a proposal made by Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva to establish a domestic airport in Bandarawela was approved by Cabinet yesterday.
