Cabinet approves more perks for MPs
Each Parliamentarian is set to receive a monthly allowance of Rs 100,000 from January 2017 to maintain an office, the Government announced today. In addition, an MP's Parliament sitting allowance will also be increased from the current allowance of Rs 500 to Rs 2500 from next January.
A proposal made by Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, Gayantha Karunathilaka, to present a proposal to the Parliament in this regard was approved by Cabinet.
