Cabinet has granted approval to purchase corn required to produce the ‘Thriposha’ nutritional supplement, from local producers.
Issuing a press release, the Health Ministry said that 12,000 metric tonnes of corn and 6000 metric tonnes of soya beans are required annually to produce the nutritional supplement.
The ministry had received two bids after tenders were called on May 23, 2018 in order to make the purchase, the release noted.
Accordingly, the names of both companies were sent to the technical evaluation committee and later to the Procurement Committee.
The Cabinet of ministers after having considered the recommendations of the technical committee, had decided to award the tender to the lowest bidder, the Health Ministry said.
The tender was awarded to a local company to uplift the economy of farmers who were engaged in corn cultivation, the release further said.
In a bid to ensure that the tender was called only for local companies, the Health Ministry had taken measures to examine the name list of corn cultivators and the names of farmers’ associations.
