Cabinet approves resumption of 'Gamperaliya' programme

The Cabinet has granted approval for the resumption of the 'Gamperaliya' rapid rural development programme. The programme was suspended during the brief period when former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was appointed as Prime Minister in October, last year.

In 2018, the Cabinet had allocated Rs.20 billion for the project. At the Cabinet meeting held yesterday (2), the Cabinet approved a proposal presented by Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera to allocate Rs 48 billion for the implementation of the Gamperaliya project in 2019.

Rs.300 million has been approved for each electoral division.
