Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe at a press briefing which was the first since the taking over of PM Rajapaksa, said the cabinet has decided to cancel the appointment of C.J.P. Siriwardena as Commissioner General for the Inland Revenue Department.
Speaking at the cabinet briefing, the cabinet spokesman noted that President Maithripala Sirisena did not favour the appointment of Mr. Siriwardena. He further said that an acting commissioner will be appointed as a temporary measure and that Prime Minister Rajapaksa will appoint a new Commissioner General in the near future.
Min. Samrasinghe also noted that the government hopes to hold the Provincial council polls in the near future and that President Maithripala Sirisena will call on the Elections Commissioner today.
