The Megapolis and Western Development ministry has received cabinet approval to develop land in Peliyagoda where 600 houses are to be built for low-income earning families.
The alloted land will be developed at a cost of Rs 217.34 by the Land Reclamation and Development Authority. Measures such as building a wall around the land and cleaning the canal which runs through the area will take place in due course.
A total of Rs 190 billion has been allocated in order to provide 40,000 houses for low-income earning families in the Colombo district.
At present, 8380 families have received their houses while 7400 families are expected to receive houses under the proposed construction project in Peliyagoda.
A cabinet proposal suggesting the development of the land in Peliyagoda was put forward before cabinet by Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday (Apr 02).
