A section of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians and provincial councilors today objected to the appointment of Government Agent (GA) to Vavuniya and urged to reconsider the party’s support to the government.
In a media briefing in Vanni the parliamentarians along with councilors alleged that appointment of a person who is not fluent in a a language which is spoken by majority of the district is very regrettable even after a assurance given to the party that a Tamil speaking official would be appointed to the post.
They also questioned if the government can’t act as promised in this minor issue, how would it handle the larger issues including the solution for the Tamil question.
This week former Commissioner Generalof Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara assumed duties as the District Secretary for Vavuniya. The same section of the TNA earlier also demanded the immediate removal of then GA, Bandula Harichandra and he was transferred to Ratnapura.
