The wild tusker who was tranqulized and captured in Kaladiya was transported to the Horowpathana Elephant Protection Centre yesterday (3).
Wildlife officers said the elephant had killed a 68-year-old woman at Kottukattchiya, Kiwula No.4 Village on June 29. The tusker had also been raiding villages in the area and destroying crops.
The tusker was captured after an extensive operation in the early hours of Monday (2) in Kaladiya.
About 500 villagers came to see the elephant being taken away and they provided the animal with fruits and also gave water for the elephant to be bathed before being taken away.
