The Ministry of Education has urged caretakers at children’s homes to send all children living in their facilities to the nearest national school.
Issuing a statement, the Ministry noted that the caretaker would be considered as a guardian for these children as per one of its circulars issued recently.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam had issued a circular indexed 38/2019 on July 31 instructing all national school principals to accept the admission of children living in children’s homes.
The circular had been issued after an incident in which a Principal had rejected the admissions of such students by stating that enrolling them would damage his reputation, the Ministry noted.
