Case against Minister Vijayakala's LTTE remarks to be heard on May 10

The case filed against Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran over her remarks concerning the revival of the LTTE organisation would be heard before the Colombo Chief Magistrate on May 10.

Meanwhile, Police today (Feb 22) informed court that they had not been advised by the Attorney General regarding the future legal measures that should be adopted in the case.

Accordingly, Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne had issued a reminder to the Attorney General in this regard.

Minister Maheswaran who is accused of violating the Penal Court was released on bail. She was arrested by the Police on October 08 after the Attorney General had called for her arrest citing that she had violated Section 120 of the Penal Code.

Police had informed court that the remarks made by the Minister during a function at the Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna on July 02 last year was in violation of the Constitution, Terrorism Prevention Act and the Penal Code.

A complaint in this regard was also filed by the national organiser of the Sinhala Ravaya movement Ven Magalkande Sudantha Thero.
