The case against former United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Tissa Attanayake was taken up today at the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court today.
Attanayake is accused of inciting communal disharmony in the run-up to the Presidential Election 2015, by publicising a letter on which the signatures of then Common Opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena and the then Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe were allegedly forged.
Police informed Court that the investigation into the incident were concluded and the findings forwarded to the Attorney General for advice. Colombo Fort Magistrate ordered that a reminder be sent to the AG’s Department in order to expedite proceedings of the case.
