The case filed against parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa and six others over an unlawful protest was fixed for December 4 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's court today (Aug 5).
The suspects have been accused of causing severe inconvenience to the public by organising a protest against the visit of the then UN High Commissioner Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad Zeid al-Hussein to Sri Lanka.
Police informed court, that Weerawansa, the leader of the National Freedom Front (NFF) party, had organised the protest along with his party members at Bauddhaloka Mawatha on February 6, 2016.
Further, police charged that the protestors had used loudspeakers without obtaining prior approval, during the protest.
The six suspects in the case are MP Wimal Weerawansa, Weerakumara Dissanayake, Jayantha Samaraweera, Piyasiri Wijenayake, Roger Seneviratne and Mohammed Muzammil.
