The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has sought Cabinet approval to purchase 300 Megawatts (MW) of emergency power.
A Power and Energy Ministry source stated that the emergency power purchase is being sought to meet power requirements in the coming months in case of a drought situation.
The CEB will go for international competitive bidding for the power purchase, the official further said.
