The Chief Inspector of Bambalapitiya Police Field Headquarters who was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today (Dec 02).
The Magistrate ordered that the Inspector be further remanded till January 11, 2019.
The suspect was arrested for seeking a bribe in order to give recommendations on behalf of a police Inspector who was suspended and seeking reinstatement. The suspect had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 150,000 and then agreed to settle at Rs 50,000.
It was at this point that the suspect was arrested, the Bribery Commission informed the Court.
The Bribery Commission informed court that further investigations are being conducted into the incident.
