Employees at the Chilaw bus depot launched a strike action commencing today (Jun 12) morning in support of the ongoing strike by employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB).
Accordingly, all SLTB buses operating along the Chilaw route will not be functioning today.
SLTB union employees had staged the strike since midnight by pointing out that talks held with authorities to resolve their issues had ended in a stalemate.
Passengers who travel using the government's monthly Bus Season Tickets have been inconveneinced by this move.
On the contrary, private bus owners say that they can earn a higher income due to the strike since state buses will not be in operation during this time period.
