China congratulates new Asgiriya Mahanayake Thera
Chinese Ambassador Yi Xianliang congratulated Ven. Galagama Dhammasiddi Sri Dhammananda Attadassi Thera on his election as the new Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, Government information Department said. “There are about 100 million Buddhists in China. The Buddhists in China and Sri Lanka enjoy a long history. There are only two tooth relics of the Buddha - one is in Sri Lanka and the other is in China. The Buddhist Society of China has maintained a very good relationship with Sri Lanka and has undertaken a lot of beneficial exchanges,” Ambassador Yi said in his statement. China is a good friend, good neighbor and good partner of Sri Lanka. China will continue to provide assistance within its capacity to Sri Lanka for the people’s well-being and economic development of the island country, he said.
