Visiting Chongqing party chief Chen Min’er invited a delegation from the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to its next party convention, the President's Office said in a statement.
The invitation had been extended when a group of CPC members led by party chief Chen called on SLFP leader President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Sept 18).
Matters concerning the long relationship between both countries and poverty alleviation programmes had figured during the discussion, the Statement noted.
During the discussion, President Sirisena had thanked China for supplying modern weapons to Sri Lanka during the war and for supporting the country at international forums.
Meanwhile, Mr. Min'Er had explained to the President that poverty levels in China have been reduced through various social empowerment programmes since 2012.
He had also said that Chinese President Xi Jinping has set out targets for officials to achieve poverty reduction goals within a specific time frame.
Accordingly, the President had observed that China's experience in poverty reduction programmes would be useful in programmes to be implemented in Sri Lanka, the statement said.
