General Secretary of Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pullikal (TMVP) Poobalapillai Prashanthan was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday over a double murder case. He was arrested yesterday in his residence at Batticaloa by a CID team from Colombo. He is remanded till November 23.
Earlier, he and his brother were arrested over the double murder incident in Aarayampathy twelve years ago. Police opened a fresh probe into the incident after the sister of one of the victims gave a statement to the police.
Leader of TMVP, Parliamentarian Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan is also currently in remand over the murder of former Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham.
