UPDATE: CID to report facts of Saman Dissanayake's arrest to court tomorrow

Update : The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) will report facts to the Galle Magistrate's court tomorrow (Jul 19) on the arrest of National Police Commission Secretary Saman Dissanayake, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.

Dissanayake was arrested over the Avant Garde floating armoury case today while receiving treatment at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital. The Attorney General had previously instructed his arrest along with seven others over the case.

Meanwhile, the police spokesman noted that four suspects have been arrested over the case while four others are currently overseas.

The suspects who were arrested previously at the Anuradhapura General Hospital over the case are Retired Major General Palitha Fernando, Retired Major General Karunaratne Egodawele.

Rakna Lanka company Chairman Victor Samaraweera too had been arrested after surrendering before the CID.


CID arrests Police Commission Secretary at J'Pura Hospital

The Criminal Investigations Department has arrested National Police Commission (NPC) Secretary Saman Dissanayake at the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara told Times Online.

Dissanayake had been admitted to the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital today in the backdrop of instructions issued by the Attorney General, calling for his arrest along with seven others over the Avant Garde illegal floating armoury case.

The police commission secretary’s fundamental rights petition and anticipatory bail application seeking the prevention of his arrest had been previously rejected by the Supreme Court and Colombo Fort Magistrate’s court respectively.

The Attorney General, responding to a clarification sent by Acting Police Chief C.D. Wickramaratne on the arrest of the police commission secretary, had also re-affirmed yesterday (Jul 17) that there was no legal obstruction to arrest him.
