The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has frozen a new set of bank accounts with cash worth Rs 134 million belonging to the associates of Easter Sunday attacks ringleader Mohamed Zahran.
CID Director Shani Abeysekara told a press conference that assets worth Rs 1 billion belonging to these suspects had also been frozen based on information gathered over the last two months.
Mr. Abeysekara stated that information regarding these accounts and assets had been uncovered during a questioning of 63 suspects who were arrested in the aftermath of the terrorist bombings on April 21.
In May, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said that the CID had frozen bank accounts worth Rs 140 million and assets worth Rs 7 billion belonging to the group involved in the Easter Sunday attacks.
