The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has sought a disciplinary inquiry on two police officers over their investigations into Dr Mohamed Shafi, CID Director Shani Abeysekara said today (Aug 8).
Addressing a press briefing, the CID Director noted that two reports over the conduct of Kurunegala superintendent Mahinda Dissanayake and deputy inspector general Kithsiri Jayalath during the investigations have been handed over to the Acting Police Chief.
Mr. Abeysekara said that the two police officers had flawed during their probe into the doctor who had been arrested and then released over charges of sterilising women, the unlawful acquisition of assets, and links to terrorism.
The CID, during previous hearings at the Kurunegala Magistrate’s court, had maintained that evidence had not been found to prove the charges against Dr Shafi who had been employed at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
A move to transfer the two police officers had also been suspended by the Police Commission earlier this month.
