CID team sent to Digana

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara has sent a special team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to the Teldeniya area in Digana to carry out investigations into the violent incidents reported from the area during the past several days. 

Earlier, President Maithripala Sirisena ordered police to conduct an immediate, impartial probe into the incident. 

Meanwhile, 24 persons who were arrested in connection with the violence were ordered to be remanded in custody till March 19 after being produced in court.
