The CID has launched investigations into the New York Times report which alleged that former President Mahinda Rajapksa recieved funding from China for his election campaign in 2015, local media reported.
The report 'How China got Sri Lanka to cough up a port' alleged that China Harbour Engineering Company which was attached to the Hambantota Port project funded a sum of 7.6 million US Dollars to Rajapaksa in 2015
Subsequently the National Organisation of Web Journalists filed a complaint with the Police Financial Crimes division calling for an investigation to be launched in this regard. However the investigation was handed over to the CID and members heading the organisation have been summoned to appear before the CID today.
