The complaints filed against three Muslim state officials will be investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), the Police Spokesman said today (Jun 12).
A three-member committee of senior police officers were tasked with accepting complaints against former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, former governors Azath Salley and M L A M Hizbullah since June 4.
As at 3 pm today, 21 complaints had been filed against these officials, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said. The deadline to file complaints ended at 4 pm today.
According to the Spokesman, the number of complaints is expected to increase since some complaints had been received after 3 pm.
Former Minister Bathiudeen has received 11 complaints against his name. Among those who had complained against him were parliamentarians S. B. Dissanayake, Udaya Gammanpila. Three complaints had been filed against him by Ven. Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thera.
Five complaints have been filed against former Western Governor Salley while two complaints were against former Eastern Governor Hizbullah.
One complaint has been filed against both Mr. Bathiudeen and Mr. Hizbullah, the Police Spokesman noted. In a similar manner, two complaints have been filed against all three state officials, he said.
