The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will record a statement from former President Maithripala Sirisena over the Easter Sunday attacks, a court heard today (Jan 6).
This was informed when the case filed against Police Chief Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretay Hemasiri Fernando for failing to prevent the attacks, was taken up for hearing at the Colombo Magistrate's Court.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the CID, informed court that statements have been recorded from former state defence minister Ruwan Wijewardena - who was serving at the time of the incident and former minister Rishad Bathiudeen over the incident.
Former President Sirisena had served as the Defence Minister at the time of the Easter Sunday attacks on April 21 last year.
The Deputy Solicitor General also informed court that statements would be recorded from former governors Azath Salley and M.L.A.M. Hizbullah in this regard.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered Inspector General of Police Jayasundara and former defence secretary Fernando to be remanded until January 22.
