The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been asked to submit a report within a week on CCTV footage relating to the alleged abduction incident of a Swiss embassy employee.
Police sources said this was after the Acting Police Chief had instructed the CID to take over the investigation of CCTV footage from the Colombo Crimes Division.
An investigation had been launched into the incident after the Swiss Embassy and its government claimed that a local Embassy employee had been abducted on November 25.
Reports claim that the abduction was linked to CID Chief Inspector Nishantha Silva's departure to Switzerland. During the last government, he was involved in investigating high profile crimes.
The Sri Lankan government, has however maintained that the timelines of the incident as provided by the Embassy do not match information uncovered during investigations.
