The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is to undergo changes which includes introduction of new officers from other branches and use of new technology for investigations.
The move comes amidst revelations of the conduct of some of the officers.
Under the plans the CID hopes to step up investigations and also concentrate on aspects of security such as threats from terrorist groups etc.
The CID will also obtain the services from foreign consultants mostly in handling cyber crime cases.
Last week Deputy Inspector General of Police Nuwan Wedasinghe was appointed as DIG CID. (DW)
