Two Sri Lankan passengers were detained by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) yesterday (17) while attempting to smuggle 323 cartons (64, 600 sticks) of cigarettes into the country.
The two passengers, a male and a female aged 42 and 67 respectively, are residents of Kandy and Negombo and had arrived in the country on a flight from Dubai.
The stock of cigarettes were found hidden inside their luggage. Customs has valued the seized cigarretes at over Rs. 3.8 million.
