Police say all cinema owners have been informed not to display any election propaganda material of any candidate or political party during screenings of films.
Police noted that the Election Commission has already notified the National Film Corporation (NFC) to prevent film screenings being used to display election propaganda and the NFC in turn has informed the police.
Accordingly, cinema owners have been informed to ensure that election propaganda material of any candidate or political party are not displayed prior to a film screening or at any point during the screening as doing so will be an offence under election law.
Furthermore, the Acting IGP has also informed all police stations to follow up on this to check if any cinemas are displaying such propaganda material.
