A split has emerged within the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) faction supporting President Maithripala Sirisena regarding the No-Confidence Motion (NCM) against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Earlier today, after a meeting with President Maithripala Sirsena at the President's official residence, State Minister A.H.M. Fowzie told the media that the SLFP Parliamentary Group had decided to abstain from voting when the NCM is taken up for a vote at 9.30pm today.
However, State Ministers Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and Dilan Perera, who were among those attending an urgent meeting at the residence of United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary and Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, later refuted the claim made by Minister Fowzie.
They insisted that the SLFP has decided to support the NCM against the PM.
