Around 35 Indian exhibitors are taking part in the COMPLAST exhibition on plastics and manufacturing, which was declared open today (Aug 9).
The exhibition is being held for the sixth time and had been declared open by Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Plantation Industries Minister Navin Dissanayaka at the BMICH.
Meanwhile, the third edition of the International Rubber Expo and the fourth edition of COMEXPO (Complete Manufacturing Expo) exhibitions were also declared open today.
During the opening ceremony, Minister Dissanayake had pointed out that there is great potential for collaboration between India and Sri Lanka to develop the rubber industry.
He had also urged the industry to implement new mechanisms in a bid to achieve Sri Lanka's targets in terms of rubber.
High Commissioner Sandhu in his address observed that India’s participation in the exhibition portrays its solidarity with Sri Lanka during difficult times. He had also pointed out the need to address the issue of plastic waste to ensure sustainable environment growth.
Mr. Sandhu had further pointed out the potential of India’s plastic industry in terms of raw materials, capacity, infrastructure and manpower.
The exhibition is expected to run until August 11.
