The Colombo Municipal Council, the pioneer local council in Sri Lanka, celebrates its 150th jubilee, which is an historical and significant landmark of the Council, today.
CMC commenced its Jubilee celebrations on Dec.10 with the opening of a photographic exhibition at the Public Library, the government news portal reported.
Main event with a cultural show under the distinguished patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister, Ranil Wickramasinghe will be held at the Town Hall premises on Dec.14.
Councilors who have achieved higher status in political scenario will be felicitated at the main event. Councilors who have become Heads of state , Governors, Cabinet Ministers and the Past Mayors will be honored.
A commemorative silver coin and a commemorative stamp too will be issued.
Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) is the largest Local Authority in Sri Lanka and one of the oldest in South Asia. Established in 1865, it has grown into a large organization catering to the needs of a resident population of 647,100 (2001 census) and a floating population of nearly 500,000 (estimated).
